Cities are the powerhouses of regional and national economies across the world. Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council, is a passionate supporter of the cities agenda and was integral to the delivery of the Glasgow and Clyde Valley City Deal – the largest in the UK and the first of its kind in Scotland. He is a firm believer that the current devolution debate must transfer constitutional powers to city regions, rather than merely be a dialogue between Holyrood and Westminster. Cllr Matheson will share his vision for the newly-empowered Glasgow city region, and outline why a global advancement of the cities agenda is both necessary and inevitable.
