Policy Scotland are delighted to welcome back former UK Ambassador to the European Union, Sir Ivan Rogers who will speaking on ‘The real post Brexit options’.
Sir Ivan has served in a variety of senior roles under Prime Ministers from Tony Blair onwards and from 2013 to 2017 he was the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the European Union. In this position, he was the UK’s most senior negotiator with other Member States and the European institutions. He warned the UK government about the adverse consequences of triggering Article 50 without securing agreement in advance with EU partners about the schedule and content of negotiation but his warning was ignored. On his resignation he told his staff never to be “afraid to speak truth to power” and to “challenge ill-founded arguments and muddled thinking”. Sir Ivan’s previous Policy Scotland lecture, The History and Origins of Brexit, was a hugely successful event.
