This round table event with Bernd Lange MEP took place ahead of the European Parliament vote on the EU-Britain Trade Agreement in March 2021. It was the latest in Policy Scotland’s series of seminars and public lectures focused on the Brexit process.
Bernd Lange is Chair of the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, the lead committee for all matters relating to trade, and so is in a pivotal role in respect of Europe’s stance with regard to current and future trade relationships post-Brexit. He is also Vice chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
Watch Bernd Lange’s introductory talk
In the video he talks about the process to create the European Parliament Resolution on the Brexit Trade Agreement and the strong focus on the level playing field for EU-Britain trade, and the pressure to scrutinise the Agreement within a short timescale following the publication of the Agreement on Christmas Eve 2020.
This introduction was followed by questions to Bernd Lange and further discussions on issues of the future relationship between Britain and Europe, trust, trade arrangements, and the European Parliament scrutiny process.
